Drawing the pieces…
Pieces share a truck only on the same lane, at legal weight and without added overwidth; anything that needs an overweight or superload permit rides alone. Each truck is priced over its own route by the heavy-haul quote engine; the project total is the sum of the priced trucks.
Fleet total
Line haul is the engine's own figure at published market rates, the same as the heavy-haul quote tool: the engine does not take a truck rate of your own, so there is no per-mile override. Trucks the engine could not price are listed with no figure and are not in the total.
Questions
What does the spreadsheet need?
Nothing reformatted. Each row needs a length, width, height, weight, ship-from and deliver-to; a quantity column expands into that many pieces. Metric and imperial units can be mixed in one sheet (ft, in, m, cm, mm, lb, kg, t), dimensions can sit in separate columns or in one "L x W x H" cell, and title blocks, section labels, subtotal rows and repeated headers are skipped and listed with the reason. Rows that cannot be read are flagged by row, never dropped.
How are pieces grouped onto trucks?
By lane first: pieces share a truck only when they share an origin and a destination. Within a lane the planner packs the deck length and width (unstacked, side by side only within 8 ft 6 in), and our rig selector picks the equipment for each load: flatbed for routine freight, step deck where height matters, RGN or multi-axle where the dimensions, deck height or axle loads demand it. Overweight and superload permits cover one non-divisible piece, so a piece that needs one rides alone.
Where do the prices come from?
Each truck is priced by the same lane engine as the heavy-haul quote tool: the permits, escorts and accessorials for every state on that truck's own route, plus line haul at the engine's published market rates. No margin is added and no rate of your own is taken. A truck the engine cannot price shows why and is left out of the project total, which says how many trucks it is missing.
Can I change what the planner decided?
Yes. Drag a piece onto another truck in the same lane, or onto "New truck" (or use "Move to…" on the piece); the target shows what the truck would look like before you drop. "Change equipment" pins a different rig, including your own from the equipment builder, and "Split" moves pieces you pick onto a new truck. Every change re-checks and re-prices only the trucks it touches; a change that cannot be legal is refused with the reason.
